WooCommerce to Shopify: Lawn Envy Direct Case Study

WooCommerce to Shopify: Lawn Envy Direct Case Study

Lawn Envy Direct had a great product but a website that wasn't doing it justice. The site wasn't built to convert visitors into customers, there was no tracking in place to measure what was working, and the product's strongest selling points were buried in technical jargon.

Here's what we did about it.

The situation

Lawn Envy Direct sell professional-grade lawn fertiliser. The founders, Dave and Scott, have over a decade of experience in professional lawn care - they know their product inside out. But their online presence didn't reflect that.

The problems:

The site was built on WooCommerce. It was clunky to manage, difficult to update, and the design looked dated. More importantly, the product presentation gave visitors no reason to choose Lawn Envy over the dozens of lawn fertilisers available from bigger brands.

The product range was split across four seasonal variants - winter, spring, summer, autumn - all with identical packaging and generic names. There was no brand identity. Nothing to make any of them stand out on a shelf, digital or otherwise.

The product pages read like technical data sheets. Chemical formulas, application rates, and health and safety warnings were front and centre - not benefits, not reasons to buy. A visitor landing on the page would see safety warnings about eye contact before they'd understand why this fertiliser was any better than one from the garden centre.

The homepage claimed to sell "the most powerful fertiliser on the market" but offered nothing to back that up. No comparison, no proof, no explanation.

Previous advertising had spent over £1,100 without generating a single sale. The ads themselves weren't necessarily the problem - the issue was that the site they were sending traffic to wasn't built to convert. There was no conversion tracking, no analytics, and no clear path from landing on the page to making a purchase. Even well-targeted ads can't sell if the landing page doesn't do its job.

What we did

We didn't just rebuild the website. We reworked the entire online strategy.

Product and brand

We worked with Dave and Scott to develop a new flagship product: Nitro 24. The name says what it does - 24% nitrogen, the highest concentration available in any consumer lawn fertiliser in the UK. Instead of four generic seasonal products competing with each other, we focused everything on one product with a clear identity and a defensible market position.

The brand proposition became "pro tools for the lawn enthusiast" - positioning Lawn Envy as the choice for people who take their lawn seriously, without the intimidation of a trade-only product.

The new site

We moved from WooCommerce to Shopify. The new site was built around conversion, not just information. That meant:

  • Product presentation that leads with benefits, not chemical formulas
  • A competitor comparison showing exactly how Nitro 24 stacks up against Miracle-Gro, Westland, Lawnsmith, and Lawn Pack on every metric
  • Supporting content including a step-by-step application guide with video
  • Clear navigation that answers the questions customers actually have

Analytics and tracking

The old site had no meaningful analytics. We set up GA4, Meta Pixel, and Shopify tracking with proper UTM parameters so every marketing pound can be traced to a result. This was a critical gap - without tracking, there was no way to know what was working, what wasn't, and where to invest next.

Conversion-ready for advertising

With proper tracking in place and a site designed to convert, the advertising can now do its job. We collaborated with the team to ensure the site complemented their ad campaigns - proper landing pages, clear calls to action, and conversion tracking that ties ad spend directly to results. The difference isn't just better ads - it's a site that's actually built to turn visitors into customers.

The before and after

The difference speaks for itself. The old site presented a good product badly. The new site makes the case clearly and gives customers everything they need to buy with confidence.

Where we are now

This is an ongoing story. The new site is live, advertising is running with proper tracking for the first time, and we're monitoring performance closely. The commercial target is clear: 20 units per month to break even, with room to scale from there.

We're tracking results weekly and optimising as we go - adjusting content based on real customer questions and building the supporting pages that turn browsers into buyers.

We'll update this case study with results as they come in. In the meantime, the foundations are solid: a clear product, a site that sells it properly, and analytics that actually tell you what's happening.

What this meant for the client

Dave and Scott now have a site they can manage themselves on Shopify, a product with a clear market position, and a marketing setup that tells them what's working. They went from a site that was costing them money to one that's built to make it.

Prepping your lawn for spring?

If you're reading this and thinking about getting your lawn sorted for the season, Nitro 24 is genuinely worth a look. At 24% nitrogen it's the strongest consumer lawn fertiliser on the UK market, it lasts 3 months from a single application, and you don't even need to water it in. Have a look at lawnenvydirect.com - Dave and Scott know their stuff.

If your website isn't working as hard as your product, let's talk

Get in touch

We spent over £1,100 on ads without a single sale. The product was never the problem - the website was. United Apps rebuilt everything: the product name, the proposition, the site. Nitro 24 now has a clear identity and a site that sells it properly. We should have done this sooner.
